I sure wish the rain would go away and things would warm up. What a nasty way to spend a long weekend battling a cold front and a slow bite.
Rick Loeb and I managed to get some decent walleyes on some crawlers, rigging was the ticket as they were not real aggressive. I fed the fish for a long as a minute and often came up empty-handed with about half the worm left. With much patience, we boated our limit of eaters and released several in the 20-26 inch range. The bite was shallow ranging in depth from 8 to 14 feet. Water temperature at Rush Bay was 58 F so the 'eyes should hang around for another two or three weeks. Minnows also worked well but the presentation had to be very slow and almost dead stick. If you plan to go out there be prepared for some company as there were several boats in the general area trying their luck. Chris Wiebe was trying to get his boat to his dock in the bay with much difficulty as the water levels are pretty low. I would suggest at least a foot or a foot and a half down from last year. You would think that the control board could get a handle on the levels that the lake is kept at. One year docks and boat houses are under water and the next year we find rocks that we didn't know they existed. I guess that I should not complain as I am just happy to get out and wet a line. CJOB 68, Winnipeg Watersports and Rene's marine are giving away a Lund Classic boat motor and trailer. Drop by either of the marine dealers to fill out a ballot for your chance to win a key. On June 20th at Pier 7, Pony Coral one lucky key holder will be running off with the total package. Until next week, keep your lines tight.
