Tools Season is over
Posted by wpgsteve on Friday, April 01, 2005 (17:54:48) (393 reads)

The fishing season has come to a close for the year. Stocked trout lakes can be fished (for trout) all year long. Everyone should be using caution in the very near future when accessing the ice; it is melting rapidly and can be extremely dangerous so please be safe.
Just to kick off the new year we are releasing an ultra secret map to one of the best trout spots in Manitoba, we just ask that you catch and release whatever you get, since most of them are master anglers it is very important. ClickHERE to download it.

Fishing Reports camp lake bows?
Posted by fishguy on Saturday, March 26, 2005 (20:41:42) (2464 reads)

Another beautifull day with the promise of maybe a nice rainbow trout to add to the ma list and we are off to falcon lake for the short sled ride into camp lake.

First the story starts out at a few visits to some local tackel shops to purchase a selection of baits sure to entice a few hungry bows up for a picture. We chose a few power type baits, power maggots in the natural color, and pink, some scent for cover, a few russian hooks, and a pack of salties and we are ready.

The morning starts out with us arriving at falcon lake and preparing our load of auger and gear and a portable flip shelter. Since none of us have been to camp before we do not where the trail is to the lake but we have a general idea. We launch the sled by the west shore marina and proccede down the lake on the north side to end where after a short ride up a cross country ski trail we find the trail to camp which is actually marked westhawk on the sign. Ice and Pike Monster Pike
Posted by wpgsteve on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 (01:26:01) (917 reads)

Destination: Falcon Lake
Target species: Monster Pike
Tools needed: Tip-up, bait, and patients.

As the end of the hard water season rapidly approaches most anglers are cleaning up their tackle boxes and breaking out the 6ft rods for summer. At the same time there are anglers that eagerly await this time year, when the water starts to melt and it makes the lakes all soupy and wet, they know, it is time, time for some monster pike!

Where to go? Falcon Lake is a good place to catch very large pike. I know you are saying to yourself "where the heck do I go in falcon, it is a big lake!" A very good place to start is (click read more below to read the rest)

IceShack Ice shack removal reminder
Posted by wpgsteve on Tuesday, March 08, 2005 (15:35:00) (530 reads)

Ice fishing shelters must be removed by March 15 on the Red River, by March 31 in the rest of the Southern Division and by April 15 in the Northwest, North Central and Northeast Divisions, or when requested to do so by a Natural Resource Officer due to unsafe ice conditions. Shelters must be stored or disposed of away from the shore and on private property. All ice fishing shelters must clearly display the owner’s name and address.

**Update 2: The NRO from Selkirk returned my phone call today (at 7:20am) They stated that if ice shacks are not removed by the deadline a fine of $182.00 can/will be issued to the owner.

Here are a few other questions that I asked:

Q) If the shack is still not removed a few weeks after the deadline, does NRO remove it? A) No, we do not remove shacks from the river. We do not have any place to store them.

Q) Will the NRO set the shacks on fire if they feel they are just going to sink into the river anyways? A) No, we do not set them on fire.

Q) Say someone leaves their shack on the river after the dealine and the shack is going to sink for sure, can another person remove the shack and claim ownership of it? A) No they cant, that is still theft and would be a matter for the police to resolve.

Q) So what happens if the person gets a fine and still doesn’t remove the shack from the river and the ice is almost out? A) Then the ice shack sinks.

Steve

cancerfishathon Cancer Fishathon 2005
Posted by wpgsteve on Sunday, March 06, 2005 (23:26:23) (314 reads)

It was the first annual Brian LeClair Cancer Fishathon this weekend located in the town of Gimli, and judging by the turnout and the group of amazing people that both attended and organized this event it will defiantly not be the last. The event raised $13,000.00 for the battle against cancer; which is just awesome. Sadly Brian lost his battle just prior to seeing this fishathon become a reality.

The weather was beautiful during the day; the kids were running around and having snowball fights and playing games, while others opted to go for a nice helicopter ride ($40). There was a tent with people serving hot food (burgers/pizza/coffee) and another large tent that you could fish out of. All the holes were drilled for you or you could pick one of many pre-drilled holes that they drilled in the morning. I can’t forget to mention Manny from Manny’s Bait (best bait around) he was handing out bags of goodies for all the kids, all donated out of his pocket. It was great the (click read more below to view the rest)
