Next Saturday marks the beginning of a brand new concept in ice fishing "derbies". The first annual Brian LeClair Ice Fishing Marathon for Cancer Care kicks off at 10:00 AM March 5 and goes to 10:00 AM March 6 in Gimli Manitoba! In between is a whole lot of fun. Right off the hop we are having a "Celebrity/Media Challange" in which for $5 a 24 hour participent is paired up with a local politician, sports personality or media person for a two hour fish -off. The team that lands the most fish in that time frame wins their name on the prestigious "EZ Dock Memorial cup and braggin' rights for a year. After lunch, we will be holding a Family Fishing derby with a twist- for every fish caught by a child under 16 they will receive a ballot. After the derby is over we will draw ballots for a number of great prizes, including fishing rods, tackle, outdoor gear even a guided fishing trip! After the prizes are handed out we will be sitting down to a hog roast on the ice, followed by a short fireworks display!
The fishing area consists of 3 large tents, 1 40'x 100', one 60' x 40' and a 40'x40' in which you can fish in comfort through the night. There will be a 24 hour concession stand courtesy of Expressway Pizza and washrooms will be provided. You must bring your own chair to fish.
The next morning we will have breakfast, then the draw for the prizes for the 24 participents begins. Everyone who fishes will receive 1 ballot, and will earn additional ballots for every $100 in pledges they have raised. There is a 12 ft Lund boat, rods and reels, ice fishing shelter, tackle packages and even some local artwork to be given out. All proceeds to directly to Cancer Care Manitoba.
The event is named after Brian LeClair, the founder of the Walleye Warrior forum. This event was started by Brian and the members of the WW forum, and was being organised by Brian, myself and Lyn Delorme when Brian lost his own battle with cancer on Feb 7/05. This will be an annual event in his honour.

So get out there March 5 and 6, Gimli it will be a blast!
