We went down to the red today (Selkirk airport) to put in a few hours of fishing. We arrived at about 830am, the road to the shack was a little snow covered but it was still in pretty good shape. We witnessed a few cars/minivans on the river and seem them make it up the hill without any problems.
We finally got our lines in at around 9am. I dropped a pickerel rig down one of the holes and it got a hit right off the hop, we never landed the fish but it was a nice hit.
I then dropped my jig down the hole (yellow whistle jig) and within 5 minutes I nailed my first walleye of the day. I love catching one early simply because I hate getting skunked! A few minutes later I got another good bite, but that was it for action for about 2 hours. We caught another
nice eating walleye (on pickerel rig) and that was it; we started packing up our stuff at 12:30.
On our way out we stopped by one of the shacks and spoke to a few guys, they caught a very nice 28 inch walleye on a pink/white jig with a salted minnow. They also said one of the guys, in a shack a few yards away from them, was catching them like crazy on 1/4oz red jigs with salted minnow.
All in all it was a good day, the weather was great (even though we were in a shack) and we caught a few walleye. |
